He will make beauty from the ashes.
What do you do when you thought: you cried your last tear yesterday and surely joy is coming in the morning- but then you wake up smack between a rock and a hard place?
What do you do when it feels like God has you in a topsy-turvy, up today - down tomorrow, and just when you think the rush of things is settling into some quiet, there you are right back in the mess of things. what do you do when hope keeps being deferred (Proverbs 13:12) - and everything is staring you down with this one question “where is your God in all of this?”
“where is God in the mess of things? where is He when I cannot perceive Him? where is He when the centre cannot hold and my life is up in the air? where is God in these ashes?
But doesn’t He seem hidden because the ashes have my gaze? because the mess has my attention, I reduce Him to these fleeting moments when He is raising my head to behold eternal glory. because like a shadow He fastens Himself to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18) He leads us beside still waters and He restores our soul (Psalm 23:2)
And this is what He does if you would lift your head from the mess that is beneath you - He’d give you fresh eyes to see the beauty He is making out of these ashes. and oh you will burst out in a joy that interrupts every sorrow because like a friend to another, like a good Father that He is, He whispers to your heart the “whys” of these things - and then your life is lifted to give thanks that He doesn’t always give you what you seek but gives you so much more + above + beyond + eternal glory. Him
…all from these ashes.
